What is a good tool for laying out images on a page without having to go through a massively steep learning curve?
Photoshop is not difficult to learn, however it requires strict organization and discipline. Photoshop is an extremely powerful program and there are multiple ways to accomplish any given task and that frequently leads to operator confusion due to not having a set, or âby the numbersâ way of approaching a given task. The task is accomplished one way today, and another way tomorrow and a third way the day after leading to confusion thus making it seem difficult to learn. Get an aftermarket book such as the âClassroom in a Bookâ series or something similar, start at the beginning and do the exercises as instructed. DONâT jump around or assume you know better than the authors. Follow the instructions! Some tips. 1). download the RAW camera files to Bridge. Say t are Canon files so t are XXX.CR2 files 2). Export the file to Photoshop and immediately âSAVE ASâ XXX Base.tif . 3). Do another âSAVE ASâ of that file XXX Working.tif . 4). Do all your editing and messing around with this file. If you really mess it up youâve still got the Base.tif file to go back to, create another working file and start over. 5). Learn how and use Layers! 6). Learn how and use âCurve Layer(s)â 7). Make NOTES step by step of what you did, and if it âworkedâ then do things in the exact same order with every image. Eventually you will develop a process that works for you and you wonât need to keep notes anymore unless you go off on some tangent - then you should keep notes again until you are comfortable with that process and itâs been committed to memory. In most cases, if you are good at creating decent RAW files in the camera. correct white balance, good overall exposure, then for most images there are only a few operations needed in Photoshop. Selecting some areas to lighten/darken with a curve layer(s), crop, spot with clone tool or the spot healing brush. Typically in my work the addition of perspective correction and/or warp added to the above produces an excellent print for about 95% of my images. Enjoy!

Insert Image into PDF: All You Need to Know
Please add tips and comments, I would love to learn them...and I don't see anyone who is willing to help out on this site or share techniques. I'm going to make this a regularly updated blog for myself, and I'll publish a review of my latest photography project next week. I also have some updates/additions to my book coming up, so I'll be posting those soon as well... As with all my writing these tips are just my own personal experiences and as of this writing I haven't been able to recreate them for myself or my camera or shoot in a studio to duplicate this technique or the result. Also, this blog, just being a blog with photos, will not guarantee you any success with Photoshop. That is only possible at the studio. I have done these methods and techniques only because they worked for me. My camera has.
